Answers to Job Interview Questions

How to Survive a Tricky/Adversarial Interview

The following 'difficult' questions are common to most tricky or adversarial interviews. In order to convince the interviewer that you are the best person for the job, you must prepare and rehearse your answers meticulously.

Study the job description and the candidate profile; research the company; and match your skills and accomplishments to the employer's requirements.

When preparing your answers, consider what each question is designed to find out about the candidate's suitability for the position on offer.

1. Why are you leaving your current job?

The employer is seeking to identify problems you have had in the past that you may carry over into your new job. Always cite positive reasons for joining and leaving a company. Never criticize your previous employer or work colleagues. Avoid statements that may convey a negative impression of yourself or your ability to get on with others. State that you are looking for a new challenge and briefly explain why you see the advertised position as an important step forward in your career.

2. Why should we employ you rather than one of the other candidates?

The interviewer wants to know what unique quality makes you the best person for the job. To differentiate yourself from the other candidates, you must show that you have researched the company thoroughly and studied the job description. You should be prepared to demonstrate clearly how your skills, qualifications, and accomplishments match the employer's specific needs. It is important to convey genuine enthusiasm for the post.

3. What are your strenghts and weaknesses?

This particularly tricky question requires painstaking preparation and rehearsal. The interviewer is looking for evidence of critical self-assessment and a commitment to continuous self-development. Stress specific job-related strengths and accomplishments. Select one weakness that could be viewed both as positive and negative, e.g. you are a perfectionist who tends to work too long hours. Show, by particular example, how you have successfully addressed this tendency. Make sure to portray yourself in a positive light. Never mention a weakness that is directly related to job for which you are being interviewed.

4. Tell me about yourself.

The interviewer wants to know how well suited you are to the job and how you can benefit the company. Spend no longer than two minutes answering this question. By analysing the job description and carrying out detailed company research in advance, you will have a clear idea of the ideal candidate. Focus on your skills, qualifications, and accomplishments that relate to the advertised position. Remember that the company has a problem and they are looking for the best solution. Prove to them that you can solve their problem better than anyone else.

5. Where do you see yourself in five years' time?

This question is designed to determine your career plan. Have you well planned short-term and long-term career goals? Is the advertised position consistent with these? If hired, are you likely to commit yourself fully to the company or will you seize the first opportunity to move on? Show that you have a structured way of establishing goals. Demonstrate the importance of the job on offer as part of your career progression. Stress that you are ambitious, but realistic. Let them know that you plan to develop professionally within the company and to work energetically to obtain promotion.

6. Why do you want to work for our company?

The interviewer is trying to discover how much you know about the company. Once again, detailed company research will pay handsome dividends when it comes to answering this question. The candidate who displays a knowledge of the company and an awareness of the challenges it faces is more likely to be selected than the tongue-tied interviewee who looks perplexed when asked why he or she wants to work for that particular company.
You should find out as much as you can about the company's organisational structure; its financial history; its range of products, goods or services; its aims and objectives; its philosophy and culture; its trading methods; its history, current position, and future developments; its competitors; its training programmes; its attitude towards its customers; its achievements; and any problems it may have. Tailor your answer in terms of their needs not yours.

Be positive. Say that you like what you've heard about the company and the way they treat their staff and customers. Stress that you are confident that you can make a meaningful contribution.

How To Become a Fighter Pilot

Becoming a fighter pilot isn't something that happens overnight. It requires lots of time, dedication and perseverance if you want to be successful. A special type of person is required to join such an elite group. Funnily enough, most people think that becoming a fighter pilot is mostly about flying, when in fact that isn't the case. You also need to successfully train as an officer. So you're primarily an officer, even if you continue on to be a fighter pilot. Your primary job is to defend the USA against its enemies, and any career aspirations are secondary to that.

There are three possible ways to train as an officer - service academy, Officer Candidate School (OCS) or Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). As a high school student, you should apply to a service academy if you want to become an officer. You can choose between the Air Force Academy, Annapolis (Navy & Marines), West Point (Army) or the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. All of them put you through rigorous military training, and you also obtain a Bachelor of Science degree. If you have a strong aptitude to advanced math and science then you'll have a much better chance of succeeding.

If you're planning to enter one of the academies, then be aware that the competition to get in is fierce. You'll need a high school grade point average of 3.8 as a cadet, as well as a SAT score of 1300. This has to include a minimum of 1050 for verbal and math. It's a good idea to have a strong extra-curricular activity record as well, even more so if those activities demonstrate leadership or athletic skills.

So if you want to enter a service academy, earn a commission and receive a college education, the path is simple. It's not easy though - you'll need to perform very well in high school, and not just inside the classroom. It takes a long time to work your way through the application process. You certainly don't just hand over a simple form and expect to be accepted into a service academy. You need three letters of recommendation, extensive paperwork, and even to be nominated by your Congressman. To improve your chances of success, start preparing your application early, and certainly don't start any later than your junior year.

The bad news is that just because you made it into the service academy, pilot training slots are still extremely limited. Being accepted by the academy is a piece of cake by comparison. However pilots are in demand right now, as all the military streams are struggling to retain the pilots they have. So if you're keen to be a fighter pilot, it's a little easier than usual to obtain a slot. How long that lasts, nobody knows.

You might also find that The Reserve Officers Training Corps is the best option for you. With this, you study at a college or university as normal, but add in the officer training requirements. On top of your regular studies you will have to attend military training and courses, spend at least one summer on a training camp and attend weekly meetings. Most of the time you live as a civilian, only donning your military garb when you're actually attending military classes. When your officer training is complete, you can then apply for specific programs such as pilot training. Competition is tough, and you'll need to pass some rigorous academic, medical and testing requirements to be successful.

For those who decide a little later in life to become a fighter pilot, The Officer Candidate School (OCS), sometimes called The Officer Training School (OTS), is the best route. Within 4 months OCS will take a college graduate with no background in the military and turn him into an officer. Again, you have the opportunity to apply for pilot training school when you qualify as an officer, but the competition is just as fierce. It's also necessary for you to begin training as a fighter pilot before you turn 27, so this third option is only available for a limited time.

The Power of Certifications

Earning an IT certification seems like a lot of work. We are talking hours of training and study for IT certification exam prep, not to mention the price of becoming certified. So what exactly is the point? Why would anyone want to invest the time and money to earn a certification? The benefits of earning a certification can be seen in many different ways. Here are a few things which an IT certification can do for you:

1. Demonstrate Commitment. For individuals who haven’t had experience in the field and are looking for a foot in the door, passing a certification exam is a great way to prove to a potential employer your dedication. Employers want employees who they can rely upon; the IT industry requires individuals who are willing to dedicate time to fixing problems and providing accurate solutions.
2. Improve Skills: You are already a talented individual, but the industry changes so quickly. Keeping up with those changes and improving your current skill sets is something which certifications are designed to accomplish. Certifications can be seen as practice for problems which will be faced in the real world. Certifications train and teach individuals how to handle situations which will be faced on the job. Through the training certifications offer, you will gain hands on experience before performing the task in the work place. Some lessons can only be learned from experience.
3. Separate from Competition: The beauty of certifications is that each is specialized to a specific area. Different vendors have produced their own certifications to fully train individuals on how to use their products. When looking for a job, promotion, or advancement, this specialized training will set you apart from others who are seeking the same position. With your certification in hand you will be able to prove your proficiency in that specific area.
4. Polish a Resume: A certification is an excellent improvement to any resume. When coupled with a four year degree your resume can become a powerful marketing tool to promote your unique skill sets.

Becoming certified will require a lot of work, but the advantages which could come from doing so, might just be worth the costs. If you are interested in becoming A+, CCNA, or earning a Microsoft Certification, contact an IT certification training company to see how they can help you out with your exam prep. Job Hunting - Your Job Between Jobs

Ronald Reagan once quipped: "A recession is when your friend loses their job. A depression is when you lose yours."

We're either dipping or narrowly skirting a recession, and getting good job hunting skills (or refreshing your existing one) is becoming a growing priority for millions of Americans and Europeans.

(A brief aside about lies, damned lies and statistics - while Americans worry about 5-7% unemployment rates being the sign of a recession, in Europe, the usual rate is closer to 10%, due to different measurement metrics and having more people on the dole. Conversely, it's much harder to let an employee go in Europe, where holding a job is considered a fundamental right.)

First things first - look at your expenses each month. Then look at your income from unemployment insurance (if available), and at the burn rate on your savings. The longer you can spend job hunting before feeling the financial pinch, the happier you'll be with the outcome. And while you're job hunting, also look at doing some freelancing in your field if you can - many job types, such as copy editors, writers, and spreadsheet gurus, can make decent money on the side doing freelancing work.)

Next, there are fundamental basics of job hunting. Make sure your resume or CV covers the high points of your experience and is easy to read. Make sure that your cover letter explains, succinctly, why you’re the best candidate for the job, and every time you get a nibble on a resume, send an interview thank you note. (Here's a trick - write the thank you letter the same time you write your cover letter, update it with the name of the person you're interviewing with, and have it printed, and in a stamped envelope to drop off in the mail box on the way out of the interview.)

Next, be prepared to work at finding a new job. Expect to make 40-50 telephone calls per week, and to send out at least 15-25 resumes or CVs per week. Be diligent in following these up. While you're aiming for making a high quality contact, this is a numbers game. Conversely, don't fixate on one job and get depressed if you don't get it. Again, the numbers game rules.

Flexibility is also key in job hunting - be willing to take on contract-to-hire positions, or work through a placement firm. Be willing to relocate. Focus on the upside, and maintain your full flexibility as a prospective employee.

If times are slow, consider taking an extra class or two, or getting a certification, to help you get an edge up in the job market. More and more, employers are forced to look at certifications to avoid charges of discrimination - you might as well get them and use this to your advantage.

Finally, be on the lookout for posted and non posted jobs. Even when times are good, fewer than 20% of all jobs get publicly posted. Talk to people in companies and work with them to find jobs that aren't publicly posted. Likewise, assume any job listing online is getting hammered with resumes and act appropriately.

Online Data Entry Jobs : Do Company Pays and How To Choose Them

More and more companies today are outsourcing online data entry jobs, making this one of the more lucrative work at home opportunities available. You must be cautious in choosing the companies that you work for, however, since there are many that will just take your sign up fee and then provide only stale leads or thinly disguised Internet marketing spam. Since many companies charge a set up fee, you may find it difficult to tell the legitimate companies from the scams. Here are some hints to help you find the best jobs on the Internet for working at home.

Longevity

Online data entry jobs that are handled by companies or sites that have been around for a while are the most likely to be legitimate work at home opportunities. Companies that scam the public or that have a poor payment record are unlikely to stay around very long, simply because there are forums and discussion sites where information about who to avoid is posted for all to see. A company that has only been in business for a few weeks or months and is promising the moon may be perfectly legitimate, but is more likely one which is not to be trusted. Look for a track record of legitimate job postings and prompt payment.

Customer service

You should be able to reach the company directly through a customer service number. Online data entry jobs from companies where there is no way to contact customer service or where the representatives are not knowledgeable about the company are automatically suspect. If the representative cannot make themselves understood in English, you may have trouble getting yourself understood in the event of a payment problem. You should be able to ask questions of a person who can respond with good answers.

Good reputation

Look for the company that you are considering for online data entry jobs through your favorite Internet search engine. If they have a web presence, check to see if there is a forum attached where people can post comments. You may also want to check the various review sites for the general reputation of the company. Another place to check for the reputation of the company is at the Better Business Bureau. This will tell you if the company has a record of poor or slow payment, if they have poor communication characteristics and if they have ethical and professional attitude toward customers.

Subject matter

The type of online data entry jobs that you choose should be based on the type of interest that you have. If you have concerns about technical writing on subjects that you have little knowledge of or interest in, then you shouldn't accept work that focuses on technical writing subjects. If you are uncomfortable with adult websites or businesses, then don't accept assignments from such businesses. You won't be able to do a good job for the customer even if they are willing to pay more. It is not a financial issue, it's an ethics issue with certain types of data entry work.

Data Entry Jobs from Home: What They Are, How to Find Them

Perhaps you've worked for entirely too long at a job you dislike. Long commutes and office politics can cause burnout and leave you wondering if there's a better way. If you're tired of going to work each day and want a way to make money that offers amazing flexibility, then a career doing data entry from home may be for you.

Data entry jobs often entail the entry of various types of information via computer and at times, management of this information. Some other names you may hear for online data entry workers are online home typists, online word processors, information processing specialists and online transcribers.

Data entry from home may include the preparation of correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, lists, records and databases. At times, the work can become tedious and time-consuming. But if you're a good typist can accurately capture and record information in a time efficient manner, data entry from home may be a good choice for you.

The data entry jobs that offer the option of working from home often also offer flexible scheduling. It's likely that you will be able to work when you want, as little or as much as you want.

Below are profiles of some of the most popular jobs available for those who wish to do data entry from home.

Medical and Legal Transcription: Medical and/or legal transcription requires the entry of information as heard on an audio file. Basically, you will listen to a recording and type everything that you hear. There is specialized equipment available such as headphones and even foot pedals that can slow down or speed up what you're listening to, as well as training courses that can teach and certify you in these types of data entry jobs.

Medical Coding: Medical coding is another data entry from home job that you can do. Medical coders ensure the proper entry and management of sensitive medical data. There are correspondence courses that can teach you how to do this from home.

Litigation Coding: A growing category in data entry jobs, litigation coding involves the capture of information from scanned documents to assist legal professionals in not only storing their documents electronically but locating the documents using accurate search criteria.

Although the money you make doing data entry from home may fluctuate depending on factors such as the availability of work and how much work you perform, people doing online data entry jobs can make up to $60,000 per year. As stated before, this figure can vary widely based on a number of variables.

The first thing to do when considering doing data entry from home is research. Simply by performing an online search, you can find more information on data entry jobs and the companies that hire employees to work from home. It's also a good idea to search the BBB (Better Business Bureau) to make sure any company you are considering working for is legitimate and scam-free.

Creating a Strategy for Your Job Search

As an newcomer in the job search realm, you may feel that by just diving in head first with no agenda or strategy, you’ll magically end up at the right opportunity. But usually, job seekers who take this approach miss out while more focused job seekers score great opportunities.

There’s definitely nothing wrong with romanticizing the job search process a bit because it pushes you forward when others are feeling pessimistic. But if you jump in with blind optimism - and no plan - you may just be setting yourself up for a stormy job seeking journey.

So how can you create a strategy for yourself? Here are some ideas …

Find Your Passion

One thing many early job seekers don’t think about is what they’re passion really is. They may have spent time studying something in school, but haven’t really discovered what about that "something" makes them want to pursue it professionally.

Until you can find your passion, your job search - and more importantly, your career - could lead you to a dead end. You may be able to get a few jobs to get by, but you will likely find yourself unhappy until you discover what you love. How do you do that? One way is to take time to write out your passions. By looking at what you really love, you could really start to pinpoint your job search strategy.

Match Your Passion to Your Job Search

After you’ve taken time to find your passion, it’s time to really gear your job search in that direction. You may have a business degree and be pursuing an accounting job. However, you don’t really like accounting - you’d prefer to be involved in the more creative aspects of business.

Why not push yourself toward a marketing job? Most likely, you will be able to speak more passionately about it and may be able to come up with examples of when you used marketing in past jobs, classes or even social and volunteer events you participated in. Remember, a hiring manager can always appreciate when your passion falls in line with the job you’re pursuing - actually, they would prefer it that way.

Use the Correct Language/Keywords on Your Resume

After you’ve pinpointed your passion and have matched it to your job search (meaning, you’ve found some jobs to pursue that fall in line with what you want to do with your life), your next goal is to translate this onto your resume. One great way to get this done is by reviewing both the job postings and the companies offering the jobs to see what they’re looking for.

After you find this out, you could match your skills and accomplishments to what they want. Be sure to use industry-specific keywords they reference in your own resume. And also, don’t forget to write in a way that speaks of passion for the job.

It’s exciting to begin searching for a job, but you want to have a strategy along the way. By finding your passion, matching it to your job search and then translating it all onto your resume, you could move that much closer to have a successful job search strategy - and eventually, a successful job.

Speeches Can Bulk Up Your Executive Resume and Job Search

You may be thinking that as an executive, you’re always required to do out-of-the-norm things to get hired. You have to venture out to functions when others don’t have to. It’s recommended that you not only create your own professional blog, but also get on board with other blogs and write for them. Well, there’s one more thing to add to the list: making speeches.

Getting your name out there and nurturing your brand is a big deal at your level, which is why making public appearances, both online and off is always helpful. If you’re not used to making professional presentations (which you should be at this point) then it’s time to learn how. Here are some tips to help you make speeches that could bulk up your resume.

Find Your Topic

Your first job when come up with a speech to give is to come up with your topic. There is no doubt that you are an expert at something. You may be an expert at something related to your field or something that you simply know related to a personal hobby or skill.

Many organizations are looking for people to give insight on a number of topics, including how to invest in the stock market, how to teach yourself to use the computer and even how to save money. However, as an executive your best bet is to speak on topics that could help push your career, such as leadership, organization, and the like.

Get Your Audience

Your next step is to find the right audience for your topic. As mentioned previously, there are tons of organizations that are looking for leaders in the community to offer insight, advice and expertise on a wide variety of topics, so it’s great to start there.

However, you could also give speeches at your local library, many of which have events within in their walls on a regular basis. Also, you could be a very effective speaker for different companies. If fact, some find that they’re so talented at giving motivational speeches to companies that this becomes their full-time job.

Make Your Speech

Of course, once you’ve created your topic and found your audience, it’s time to actually make the speech. Again, you’re probably well aware of the basics of speech-making, so we don’t have to go over much. Just remember to know your introduction, remember your material, directly address your audience (eye-contact, interaction) and must of all, have fun.

Add It to Your Resume

After you’ve completed all of your hard work to give your speech, it’s time to add it to your resume. Since it was not completed for a job, you could create either add to another section or create a special section for it (if you’ve done more than one). A title to consider for this section could be "Speaking Engagements." And if you’ve only given one and want to add to with other items, your title could be "Presentations, Guest Blogs, Special Events" - or whatever you would like to group together.

There’s no doubt that getting out in front of people is a great way to find an executive-level job. So if you haven’t yet, why not consider giving speeches as an option?

Are You Ready to Build Your Executive Network?

Sometimes the most difficult part of the job search is finding the right people to help you out along the way. As an executive, having help - also known as an executive network – is very often vital to getting your next big opportunity.

But how do you go about building your executive network? And after it’s been built, how do you nurture it so that it stays intact even while you’re employed? There is an art to getting this done, so let’s explore building your keeping your executive network.

The Importance of an Executive Network
As an executive, you probably already have a good idea of just how powerful an executive network is to your career. Even if you’ve only worked for one company and worked your way up the ranks there, you had to build a network of important contacts to get on boards and committees and even help the company grow.

Now as an executive job seeker, you need a network that will help you find your next job. And even if your next job isn’t found via networking, it’s good to always keep professional contacts in your corner.

Getting Started
Probably the easiest way to build your executive network is to first start with the people you know. Whether you’re connecting with your former co-workers, clients, friends or family members, it’s great to build a strong network with people you trust to offer guidance in your career.

But of course, this is the easy part. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of other great contacts out there and it’s up to you to try to connect with as many of them as possible. So how can you get this done?

You can try social networking sites like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, which all provide opportunities to connect with other professionals in one location. Also, you can try starting your own blog on a topic related to your field. By doing this, you will draw an audience of professionals that want to share their expertise as they’re acquiring yours. Of course, networking in person is also crucial and shouldn’t be overlooked in the process.

Nurturing Your Network
So now that you’ve built this incredible executive network, how do you nurture it? Well this is actually pretty simple. Basically, be a good networker yourself. This includes being a good listener, being upbeat and friendly and being genuine.

Also, it’s important to stay in touch with your network, even when you think you don’t need them anymore. Take them out to lunch here and there and check up on them and their family. Any efforts you make to let them know you’re not simply using them will be more than appreciated. And finally, don’t forget to thank them after receiving their help. Letting them know they’re appreciated definitely goes a long way.

Of course, your job search doesn’t only involve your network. You need a strong resume, an elevator speech (for unexpected networking moments), visibility (through the social networking, blogging, speeches/presentations and social events) and the confidence that you can get this done.

The good news is that following this formula gets executives jobs every day. And sooner than later, it could get you your next career-defining job too.

How to Survive as a Networking Newbie ?

If you're just starting out in business, you've probably already been told by a number of people that Networking is an essential activity to get involved in. It's a great piece of advice and, even though it might fill you with absolute dread, it will provide a huge number of business contacts. Whilst not all of these will be directly relevant to you and your own business, referrals to third parties happen all the time and this really is the whole point to getting involved in Networking.

Even though I've only recently set up my own business as a Virtual Assistant, it had been in the pipeline for a long time, and one of things I knew I had to face up to was the fact that I'd have to put myself out and about on the Networking circuit. I can tell you that, out of all the hurdles associated with setting up a new business, the Networking hurdle was my most feared. I'm not a natural Sales Person but I am a natural talker - and the more events I've attended, the more I've realised that being able to talk is the only skill you need. Oh yes, and a stack of business cards!

In order to survive as a Networking Newbie, I'd recommend the following tips:

Smile !
Even if you're feeling completely overwhelmed, wear a smile. It will attract other people towards you and instantly boost your confidence.

Approach other people standing on their own

Remember - you're not the only one feeling awkward. They’re also more than likely to be as nervous as you are.

Extend a firm handshake

It gives the impression that you're confident and comfortable in the situation and you definitely mean business.

Always try and ask about your new contact first

This will demonstrate that you're not a selfish Net worker because you’re showing that you’re more interested in the other person than in talking about yourself.

Be a good listener

Even if you're talking to someone whose business is of no direct relevance to your own, appreciate that you're all there for the same reason.

Keep your own business statement brief

Accompany your verbal statement with your business card and direct people to your website for more detailed information. Keeping it brief at the beginning enables others to ask specific questions which you can then answer in as much depth as is required.

Be polite and honest

You will make a good impression with many new contacts because they remember your friendly personality and honesty, not necessarily what line of business you're in.

Acknowledge the contacts you've made

Always follow a Networking event by sending a brief two-line email to every contact you've made along the following lines: "nice to meet you, added your details to my database, hope to see you at future events". Nothing more is needed - unless, of course, potential business was discussed at the event with one or more individuals. Then a more personalized message is called for.

So, all in all, it doesn't have to be that scary. By implementing some - if not all - of the above tips, you can actually look forward to attending future events free from anxieties.

So, what are you waiting for ? Go on, give it a go!

Small Business Networking: An Overview

Small business networking is very important to success. You, the computer consultant, are entrenched in the professional services business, which revolves around relationships and thus networking with a large number of people.

You need to make small business networking of the utmost importance when starting your business and take things slowly. You will not get a large number of clients, nor will you get clients that need you immediately when you go to your first big networking event, even though you could come away with five or six really good prospects.

The Key Word Is "Contacts"

Small business networking offers the opportunity to find good client contacts, but it also allows you to find people that know people who might need you or perhaps have similar business philosophies that would be good to know in the future and might bring you more business.

Once you make contacts of any sort, make sure you follow up and have meetings, proposals and sales calls. This type of small business networking is much better than trying to find emergency, one-shot clients. You can forge paths with people that are or can put you in touch with steady clients capable of long-term support. Even if every networking event doesn't produce a large number of clients, it can help you get referrals that will improve your ability to conduct productive small business networking.

The key in small business networking is to have a lot of different leads and many contacts at the same time. Some will be ready to jump into long-term client status and some will not at different stages and different times, but keeping in touch with all of them will help you stay in contact with a lot of potential and actual business.

Client contacts and referrals will help you find long-term steady clients that will help your business last for the long term. Even though going to small business networking events may seem a waste of time, you could gain exactly the types of contacts and even clients you need to really drive yourself forward.

12 Kiat Menghalau Senin Kelabu (1)

Lakukan sesuatu setuntas-tuntasnya. Kalau Anda memang harus melakukan tugas rumah tangga, kerjakan hingga selesai, jangan pernah menyisakannya. Ajak anak-anak Anda melakukan kegiatan bermanfaat.
Nah, kalau setiap hari dilewatkan tanpa kerja, niscaya Anda tak akan mengganggap hari Senin sebagai permulaan kerja.

5. TAK PERLU TIDUR LAMA
Thank God it's Friday!
